A guy in my Spanish class claims that he learned how to speak Spanish simply by watching this movie over and over and over again.

He's pretty much fluent now.

When I watched this movie, first I was a little interested, then I was a bit more interested, then I was even more interested, then I was VERY interested, and then I wasn't interested at all.

i actually saw this movie at the theater and strangely enough i was able to understand quite a bit. even though my mother is spanish, i have never been fluent, but i found myself not even having to read the subtitles. perhaps it was just that i connected with the sex in the bathroom stall part.....

I always used Asterix en hispania to prepare for trips to Spain. Very useful for geography.

For what it's worth, I thought the allusion was obvious enough not to require an explanation, but I'm pretty sure I was born before 1995.

How would you credit something like that, anyway? I think what Mr. Nealon said differed in some particulars, so it wasn't a direct quote. I suppose you could have made the whole thing a link to the Hebrew wikipedia entry on Kevin Nealon, Weekend Update, or SNL, but that would have created its own problems.

I guess I'd stopped watching SNL by that point. Kevin Nealon (who's great on Weeds, by the way) was my least favorite of the late 80s halcyon days.
